I became aware of Davidson’s music through a series of albums made with the late Zbigniew Karkowski, as well as his longstanding engineering work at the legendary Compound in San Francisco. On his first album for Tears of Joy he redeploys military industrial signal generators toward pure sonic aims in order to build a complex, physical sonology - a singular soundworld seemingly approaching from outside of time. The Zero Drifts is presented as one continuous piece in seven movements spanning a multitude of textures, densities and atmospheres moving through a state of continuous disorientation and shifting perspective, bringing the listener inside the sound itself - and simultaneously into an unknown location in a vast expanse of acoustic space. Corporal polychromatic church music from one of America's premier sonic architects.
