Two DJs from Venice’s lower power FM radio station 99.1 debut solo projects for the first 7” on Tears Of Joy. Shunning a digital archive or an internet presence almost entirely, Venice FM has gathered a small but dedicated group of listeners on the westside of Los Angeles. Regardless of it’s intentional obfuscation, founder Tony was asked to help curate a station for Grand Theft Auto based on Venice FM. He also makes music as part of Los Tres Pericos and ATM, the latter of which have released three recent 12”s on the Radical Documents imprint. James has released music as part of a number of projects, most recently albums by Rinpoche and Live For Each Moon, as well as a forthcoming 12” from City Illusion.

Tony’s side holds The Discontent, a timely and poignant statement of resistance to resistance, made with electronic gear in the spirit of our punk forefathers. A mellower act of ponderance follows in the form of a dopey jazz groove titled What. Just one tune dominates James’ side, a 118bpm live take made on borrowed gear based around a cut up sample of a motivational phrase often employed by his partner to get him out of the house.

Pressed in an edition of 150 copies with silk screened sleeves and cut at 45rpm for maximum impact in the dance and in your head.
